We had our turn — now it’s yours
It is the nature of top-100 gaming lists: There are only so many entries you can include, and when you’re dealing with something as big as, oh, all of gaming, some peoples’ faves unavoidably miss the cut. So thankfully it’s also the nature of the internet to debate such things.
On Monday, Polygon published a list of the 100 greatest video game quotes of all time. Yes, I’m biased, but I’d say it’s a damn fine list. You’ll find one-liners dating back to the arcade and text adventure eras. You’ll find snippets from monologues that redefined the medium. You’ll find quotes from indies that expanded the idea of how many feelings a game can make you feel. You’ll even see Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on there — twice!
But 100 quotes isn’t nearly enough space to cover every line of dialogue that deserves a ranking. For every unforgettable quip that made the list, another had to get cut. (Sorry, Pac-Man.)
