Schematics in Mouse: P.I. For Hire can be found from the very start of the game, during the intro mission “Big Mouse, Little Hope,” when you’re chasing the mysterious character through the airship. Even when you make it to the Little & Big Bar and your office in Mouseburg, you’ll realize you still can’t use them yet. So what gives?
All will become clear, but if you want to know exactly what they’re used for and why they’re worth hunting down, here’s a complete rundown of what to do with schematics in Mouse: P.I. For Hire and where you can typically find them.
Schematics in Mouse: P.I. For Hire, explained
In Mouse: P.I. For Hire, schematics are used to upgrade your weapons. However, there’s a catch: you cannot upgrade weapons until Tammy’s Bearings, the building behind the ammo store, has finished its makeover. So in essence, keep collecting schematics and you’ll be able to use them eventually.
To be specific, Tammy’s Bearings will open once you complete the “B.A.N.G.” side job, which becomes available once you’ve got the main job “A Bit of a Scene,” after completing “Bandel’s Laboratory.” After speaking with Cornelius Stilton in your office, you’ll find a “greasy notice” stuck to the streetlight outside the ammo store. Head to Tammy’s Bearings and the door will be open. Talk to her and she’ll explain how weapon upgrades work. Interact with the blueprint on the desk and you can spend your schematics upgrading weapons.
Most weapons in the game, aside from a select few that cannot be upgraded at all, have three stages of upgrade, costing one, three, and five schematics respectively. Therefore, it costs nine schematics to upgrade a weapon fully, and with eight weapons in total that can be upgraded, you need 56 schematics overall. The first upgrade will unlock an alternate fire mode for each weapon, while subsequent upgrades typically improve the weapon’s damage, clip size, max ammo, and accuracy stats.
Where to find schematics in Mouse: P.I. For Hire
Mouse: P.I. For Hire holds plenty of secrets in every level, and with movement abilities such as double jump and wall run available, you can explore every nook and cranny for hidden paths and items. Schematics will often be found slightly off the beaten track, including inside locked safes, which must be unlocked via the tailpicking minigame. If the splash text “secret found” pops up, chances are there’ll either be a schematic nearby, or another type of collectible. You can also earn schematics by completing side jobs.
