You’ll receive the Mouse: P.I. For Hire “Perfect Bog Fondue” side job from John Brown, the publican at the Little & Big Bar, after completing the “Saltwater Cambozo” main job. John explains he wants the recipe, and you can only get it from the Old Cheeselegger at the Far Wetlands, which is where the “Damp Evidence” main job takes place.
However, when you reach the Old Cheeselegger, he wants three of “them thingies” before he’ll give you the recipe. Here’s where to find all three thingies in Mouse: P.I. For Hire, and also where to find Old Cheeselegger at the end of the level to complete the job.
‘Perfect Bog Fondue’ thingy locations
The first one of “them thingies” is very close to the beaten track, so you don’t have to stray far to get it. After you speak with Old Cheeselegger, kill all the enemies in your way to the east, then head back into the mines via the open gate with the “falling rocks!” sign and an arrow pointing up to your right in front of you.
Pull the switch for the elevator, then watch as rocks fall. Use the wooden platform to the left of the switch to jump over to the other platform below, where the magnifying glass indicator is telling you to go. Rather than turning back around to jump again, follow the path forward through the open doorway to find the first of them thingies next to a wedge of cheese and some boxes.
For the second one, continue through the level as directed until you reach the elevator that takes you into the mansion, and your main job objective updates to simply “explore the mansion.”
From the save point in front of you, tailpick the lock to the door, then go through the subsequent doorway to your left. When you reach the room with a poisonous barrel next to the table in the middle, the fireplace opposite you, and the “totally normal wall” on your left, you’ll find the second “them thingies” atop a stack of tires on your right.
The third and final “them thingies” is a little further away, and the easiest of the three to miss. Keep progressing through the mission until you reach a steamboat, docked in the swamp with a number of enemies on the wooden platforms surrounding it.
You need to climb up to the top of the boat to progress, but before you use the wooden ramp and updraft to soar over to the next treetop, look underneath the ramp. This is where you’ll find the third “them thingies.”
Where to find Old Cheeselegger
You still need to deliver all three “them thingies” to Old Cheeselegger to get the recipe, and you can do that right before the end of the level. After MiceGuffin MacLeod tries to trap you in the flooding building, it’s implied you’re in a rush to leave… but there’s actually no time pressure here at all.
Use the fallen ladder to climb through the broken hole in the wall above you, then take a right-hand turn. Go through the next open door on your right into the room that is also filling up with water, then through the wider open door at the end. Cross the bridge, go through the open door on your left, then down the stairs and through the door on your left next to the half-open garage door.
At the end of this corridor, there’ll be another doorway. When I completed this mission, this door was shut and it said “no entry (yet)” on it, however upon kicking the door, it opened. On the other side, there’s a save point, and if you go through the next door then walk behind the building, you’ll find Old Cheeselegger sitting atop some tires, underneath the bridge you crossed moments ago.
Talk with him to exchange the thingies for the recipe, and don’t forget to grab the comic on the boxes next to him. All you need to do now is defeat the final boss and head back to Little & Big Bar to complete the side job and earn two Prize D-Spenser tokens for your trouble.
