At the first big panel at Las Vegas Magic Con 2026, Wizards of the Coast confirmed that Magic: The Gathering’s big Universes Beyond crossover collaboration with Marvel is only just getting started. We already got a small Spider-Man set, and Marvel Super Heroes launches on June 28.
“When we decided we were going to do Marvel, we decided there was so much Marvel to do,” Magic lead designer Mark Rosewater said in a press preview before Friday’s panel. “We weren’t going to do this one set. We were going to do multiple sets. And so I took the very first large set, which was Marvel Super Heroes.”
Internally, Wizards of the Coast refers to Marvel Super Heroes as “Avengers Plus,” since it focuses on the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Young Avengers, and Heroes for Hire. Even more Marvel characters are coming in later sets.
Vision Design
Wizards often talks about “Vision Design” when it comes to adapting crossover properties into Magic, and the preview panel took that literally when it came to Marvel. The big reveals include two different versions of Vision, the synthezoid.
Wizards confirmed that Vision will appear across multiple cards. Vision, Synthezoid Avenger will be in the Avengers Assemble preconstructed Commander deck as an artifact creature with flying that seems like it’ll punish blue players. Every time a player casts a spell when it’s not their turn, Vision can either gain a +1/+1 counter or phase out.
“One of Vision’s powers is that he can change his density,” Rosewater said. “So he can make himself very dense, which makes himself extra strong, or he can make himself lose so much density he can actually pass between objects. And when he does that in the comics, they refer to it as phasing.” Magic already has a phasing mechanic that treats a creature like it doesn’t exist — making it so that it cannot be targeted by spells. They then phase back into existence on the next untap step.
Over in the main set, there’s a rare version of the synthezoid called The Vision, which feels overpowered. It’s a 2/5 that costs four colorless mana, The Vision can trigger one of three abilities every time you cast a noncreature spell, each one modeled after one of the character’s superpowers. Solar Beam gives him double strike. Density Control makes him indestructible. And Technopathy lets you draw a card.
Wizards of the Coast also confirmed that the Vision will appear alongside Scarlet Witch in a team-up card called The Vision and Scarlet Witch. Furthermore, Marvel Super Heroes will feature Jumpstart decks, one of which will focus on the two of them called Scarlet. Rosewater also hinted that there will also be a common red card called Vision of Love showing the couple as well.
The Infinity Gauntlet and Stones
The Spider-Man set included the Soul Stone as one of the biggest chase cards in recent memory, and Wizards confirmed that Marvel Super Heroes will include the Mind Stone with all the same treatments.
The Mind Stone is an indestructible white mana rock that costs two mana and taps to generate one white mana. For six mana, you can harness the Mind Stone and activate its infinity ability. It exiles up to one target nonland permanent that you control and returns it to the battlefield under its owner’s control. That’s huge for any decks with cards that have enter-the-battlefield (ETB) triggers.
“This is our headliner for this set,” Rosewater confirmed. “Much like the Soul Stone, it is an indestructible artifact for two mana and it can tap for a colored mana.” Soul Stone is black and Mind Stone is white, but we don’t know what colors will be associated with the remaining stones.
“One of the things that we decided early on when we decided we’re going to do a bunch of Marvel sets is we wanted a throughline,” Rosewater said. That throughline is the inclusion of at least one Infinity Stone in each Marvel set. We’ll definitely get four more Infinity Stones in future sets, but does that mean four more sets? Possibly.
Marvel Super Heroes prerelease begins June 19 with a full set launch on June 26.
